Home For The Holidays In Gaffney

Gaffney, South Carolina is a small college town in the state's Upcountry region. Its holiday festivities reflect the small town charm and a simpler time that many people long to come home and find. However, Gaffney's location along I-85 between Greenville and Charlotte has also made it the perfect choice for a large outlet mall. So visitors to the area can enjoy the small town festivities as well as a premier holiday shopping destination.

Holiday celebrations in the area begin November 17-18 at nearby Cowpens National Battlefield Park. The park will host a "Backcountry Holiday" at the historic Robert Scruggs House. The free event will focus on holiday traditions in colonial times. Costumed interpreters will offer a variety of family activities on Sunday from 1:30-4pm. Visitors may also drive through the Revolutionary War battlefield, hike the Battlefield Trail, and watch a short film at the Visitor Center.

The Annual Christmas on Limestone is scheduled for November 30 from 5-9pm in downtown Gaffney. Family festivities will include the lighting of the city's Christmas tree, candlelight tours of the Michael Gaffney Log Cabin, Christmas music, children's activities, and carriage rides through downtown. Visitors may stop by City Hall to view the Festival of Trees and vote on their favorite. Proceeds support local non-profits.

The Limestone College theatre department will present "White Christmas" November 29-December 8. Performances take place in Fullerton Auditorium at 7:30pm. Limestone College will present its 28th Annual Christmas on Campus on December 1. The college's gift to the community begins at 5pm with the "Lighting of the Luminaries." More than 10,000 candles will light up the campus and the surrounding neighborhood streets. Homes along the luminary route will be beautifully decorated as homeowners compete in the holiday decorating contest. The community is invited to a holiday reception at the home of the college president, at 1008 College Drive. From 6:30-7:30pm the music and theatre departments will perform selections from "White Christmas" in Fullerton Auditorium. The celebration moves to the front of campus for a reading of the Christmas story at 7:45pm, followed by a visit from Santa.

The Gaffney Christmas Parade will take place downtown on December 8 at 10am. The parade route is along S. Limestone Street. Enjoy the floats, local bands, ROTC units, and Santa. Following the parade, downtown stores will be open for holiday shopping.

Gaffney Premium Outlets are located at I-85 and Exit 90. The biggest sale of the year is the After Thanksgiving Sale, November 23-25. Shoppers will enjoy many in-store promotions and extended shopping hours at stores such as Coach, Brooks Brothers, Guess, Ann Taylor, J. Crew, Juicy Couture, and Polo Ralph Lauren. Enjoy the holiday music at the Food Court each Sunday afternoon from November 25-December 23. Extended holiday shopping hours are in effect November 26-December 23. Hours are Monday-Saturday from 9am-9pm and Sundays from 10am-7pm. Christmas Eve hours are 9am-6pm for those last minute gifts.
